Resonance-the problem

Resonance causes audible distortion; muddying of the bass, losing its distinct notes.
Voices become less clear, smeared with unwanted sibilance. The deep black space between notes becomes less pronounced.
The sound stage becomes indistinct, slam and dynamics are less pronounced and the overall clarity, presence and sense of musical realism is lost.
In effect, resonance has robbed your system of its true potential.

Microcell Resonance Absorption Technology

Experimentation with numerous lightweight materials, objective measurements and countless evenings involving a few friends with good ears has led to the material that is used in all MITMAT™ isolation products.

The material uses microcell rigid foam to dampen low-frequency resonance, with a reduction of 3-10 dB. The micrometer-flat sandwich layers top and bottom also constrain resonance and dampen mid-to-high platter ringing by up to 20dB.The microcell technology traps thousands of tiny gas “bubbles” in a PVC matrix. In effect, these gas bubbles act as tiny “shock absorbers” to absorb the resonate energy which is then dissipated as heat.

The results are low weight and discrete resonance products that are either as effective, or more effective than isolation products using mass to address unwanted resonances.

Better definition, focus, dimensionability and tonality of the overall presentation. Offers extremely high return on investment.

I have been selling turntable peripherals for over 30 years and have found that isolation mats properly fitted on the turntable always seem to improve results. Whether its improved harmonics, details or isolation from feedback , the results speak for themselves. Microcell anti-resonance technology is a cutting edge technology that the Mitmat offers at a reasonable price . Highly reccommended

When using the MitMat on many systems we find that the bass was tighter and more focused, allowing the mid range and treble clarity to shine through.

Music is vibration but so too is noise. And let’s face it only the music is desirable. Isolating our precious music from extraneous noise is therefore a necessity and to this end products such as those created by MITMAT should be considered as a must have for all music enthusiasts. The MITMAT isolation platter for turntables is the first item I listened to and it delivers. We do demonstrations for customers in our store all the time and the sonic improvement is easily noticeable. For the price of two or three records it is a very affordable way to get more of the music you love.

I was quite happy with my Hi Fi system - it sparkled. Several years ago I purchased a platter mat using a PVC /air bubble matrix for my TD 206 turntable and was amazed at the improvements to the sound-especially more detail, somewhat cleaner high notes and tighter base. When I heard that essentially the same technology was used for various component mats and footers I called Lawrence Mittler and asked for a few samples. Well, with each component I placed on the 12 mm foundation mat with 12 mm footers I noticed an immediate improvement-greater resolution and detail, clean high frequencies and tighter base. And, to my surprise, the soundstage which had stopped at the edge of the component rack, now extended well into the room, with greater height, width and depth. With some passages of music the impact was like a body slam. I have now added the mat and footers under each of my components-my system is now simply quite magical and feel the MitMats are the best money I have spent on my system.

My son surprised me a few weeks back for several reasons-first with the purchased a new double vinyl record and secondly because he had no way of listening to it in his room. Out went a request to family and friends for a record player, and an amplifier. I had a pair of small KEF bookshelf speakers from my days at university. His grandfather supplied a Dual 604 record player in perfect shape and an uncle supplied a 30 watt amplifier and a phono stage. We were all set. We set the system up in his bedroom and placed the system on an IKEA cabinet. Unfortunately the record player, amplifier and speakers all needed to be placed on the top of the cabinet so I was worried about resonance from the speakers. Particularly given that the Dual 604 was a suspension table and prone to resonance. We decided to listen to an album by Florence and the Machine that I was very familiar with to get a sense of how good my son’s system was and to check for resonance. Unfortunately my concern was justified-the music was somewhat muddled, sibilance was pronounced, the high notes lost their edge, bass was muted, and everything was just a bit flat. I had hoped for a bit better even though my son was quite pleased. I decided to see check with the 2001 electronics store in Newmarket to discuss what I was convinced was a resonance issue and see if they had a solution To my surprise they did. They had just brought in a product called the MITKIT: a 3mm record platter mat, an 18 inch 15 inch 6mm isolation mat to be placed under the record player and 4 6mm thick footers all in black. The resonate material itself is made from PVC and infused with thousands of tiny air bubbles that act to defuse unwanted resonce .I added 4 additional footers that sold separately. I placed the footers under the speakers, replaced the hard rubber stock platter mat and placed the record player on to the foundation mat. We put the needle down and wow-what a difference. Suddenly we heard music and to my surprise a reasonable presence that had been missing altogether. The treble was clean, the bass was tight and the disturbing sibilance was almost gone. Given this experience I thought others should know that an inexpensive solution from a Canadian company is available to help with unwanted resonance issues.
